Sherry Keegan Obituary

Beloit, WI - Sherry A. Keegan, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Janesville surrounded by her daughter and loving family. She was born in Portage, WI on June 30, 1944, to Franklin Benjamin Harrison Siewert and Opal Ray Siewert. She graduated from Portage High School and went on to earn her social work degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Sherry served families and children in Rock County with unshakeable dedication and passion for nearly four decades as a child protective services worker with the Health & Human Services Department until her retirement in 2004.

Sherry enjoyed traveling, reading and cherished time with her adoring friends and family. Most importantly, Sherry will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humor and non-judgmental nature. As one of her great-nieces - Kennedy said, "everybody loved Aunt Sherry. She was the 'cool' aunt."

The family would like to thank Margo on the Ortho floor and Deanna in the ER at Mercy Hospital, and Dr. Brian Nagel in Neurology at UW-Madison. Memorial donations may be made to Safe Families for Children (SFFC) in Wisconsin, www.safefamilieswi.org/donate.

Sherry was a rock for her entire family. She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Danielle McGrath; grandson who loved her more than life itself, Nicholas (Dean Isidro) Holder; sisters, Sally (Tom) Drury and Suzanne (Richard) Krenz; niece Marnie (Terrel) Marks and nephews Patrick Drury and Nate (Destinee) Drury; Jim (Kerry) McGrath; Sherry's most loyal and supportive friend of more than 40 years, Kathy Brose; and many other wonderful friends who she shared many laughs and special memories with. She is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Keegan; parents and other grandson who loved his grandma so deeply, Greydon Pelkey.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family. For online condolences and guestbook, please visit: www.schneiderfuneraldirectors.com

Sherry tolerated my clownish behavior during classes from kindergarten to our senior year.
She honored me with a dance at Gordie“s the night of our 25 th HS Reunion Party. A class act from start to finish.

Our sympathies to the Keegan Family. Sherry and I were classmates (class of 62). She always had a positive spirit and outlook on life. She made an impact on all she came in contact with. She will be missed.

Sherry was a good friend of mine in high school and for all these years after. She and I and other school friends would take a yearly trip together just to see each other and to enjoy just being together. The news of her passing saddened us all. She will be missed. My heart felt Condolences to the family.
