Margaret "Peggy" Skinner died on December 11, 2024 in Seattle, Washington.
Margaret Louise Pound was born February 3, 1936 in Garden City, Kansas to Robert "Bob" Ovando Pound and Ethel (Vance) Pound. She was an only child who spent much of her childhood with her grandmother Daisy (Brann) Vance on the family farm in Garfield Township and at the Garden City First United Methodist Church.
Peggy attended Garden City Senior High School, graduating in May of 1954. She then attended Garden City Community College, where she met and later married Barry Faye Skinner, a dashing young man just entering the Marine Corps.
The next thirty years were filled with the diverse experiences of a Marine Corps family. Moving often, Peggy and her children returned home to Garden City frequently, where they visited family, friends, and attended school. Her husband Barry brought her treasures from around the world, which she kept and cherished, furnishing their many homes with just the right touch of elegance.
In addition to being a prolific reader, Peggy was also a talented writer. She often communicated with friends and family through detailed and vibrant letters and emails, engaging in long-lasting correspondence with some of her dearest friends. This correspondence usually contained anecdotes about her kittens and cats, which were always present in her life.
In 1977, Peggy earned her real estate license and became a respected realtor and broker in San Diego, California. She served on the board of directors for the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro, California and shared her love and dedication to the sea and its creatures with her children and grandchildren.
Retiring in San Diego, Peggy directed the complete remodeling of their home and became a beloved fixture of their neighborhood, known for her kindness and for distributing full-size candy bars on Halloween to the children of the area.
Creative from the beginning, Peggy was a skilled clarinet player (1st Chair), a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook, a gifted hostess, and she appreciated a variety of arts, including music, painting, drawing, fabric arts, and theater.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Sara Schroeder of Seattle, Washington; her four grandchildren, Katrina (Joe) Lowry of Garden City, Kansas, Bobby (Jennifer) Skinner of Lancaster, South Carolina, Emily Hicks of Drummond Island, Michigan, and Jacob Schroeder of Seattle, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Emerson Skinner of Lancaster, South Carolina; and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barry, her son, Scott "Chip" Skinner, her mother Ethel, her father Bob, and Bob's second wife, Claudine (Lindner) Pound.
In lieu of a service, memorial gifts may be given to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California where Peggy adopted her beloved friend, Peek-A-Boo.
