NANCY L. LYONS Nancy L. Lyons, 87 of Kearney passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Nancy was born November 17, 1937 in Alliance, NE to Carl and Opal Walters. In 1949, Opal would remarried Eugene Whitnack. Nancy spent her childhood being raised in North Platte by her loving parents. On July 30, 1965, Nancy married the love of her life, James H. Lyons at Frontier Days in Cheyenne, WY. Their love for music and traveling took them and their children on many adventures. In 1982, they settled in Kearney. Nancy wore many hats in her lifetime. She worked at West Co. until her retirement. Her favorite job was being a mom, grandma, and a great grandma. Nancy was a diehard Nebraska Fan. She loved to cheer on "her" Huskers. During the warmer months she was most likely found in her garden or flowerbeds. She enjoyed canning her vegetables and making jam. Nancy was also a country music enthusiast, often attending many concerts. In her later years, she enjoyed going to the horse races, playing Bingo, and watching the birds and squirrels. She lived a life full of love, laughter and endless smiles. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kelly (Jan) Sommer, Kendra Sommer, Bambi Staab, Jeff (Hollie) Lyons and Stephanie (Kurt) Stones; grandchildren, Jamie (Jodi) Reiter, Kortney Sommer, Kory (Stefanie) Staab, Kaitlin Staab, Levi (Nici) Lyons, Abbie (Scott) Zimmerman, Nicole (Matt) Stones, Zack (Jenna) Stones; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Edna Mae (Rod) Dethlefs; and many extended family and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents. Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Area Animal Shelter or to Aseracare Hospice. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.
