Guntram Jarre Obituary

Guntram "Gunny" Jarre February 19, 1928 – January 29, 2012 Guntram "Gunny" Jarre passed quietly Sunday, January 29th. He will be sorely missed. Gunny was born to Dr. Hans and Editha Jarre on February 19, 1928 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He studied geology at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo before moving west to attend CSU. It was at CSU where he met his future wife, Lois. Following a three year stint in the Coast Guard, Gunny returned from Alaska to work on the EA ranch near Dubois, Wyoming. Gunny and Lois (Kennedy) were married in 1958 and moved to Riverton, Wyoming. His career as a geologist began in the nearby Gas Hills with Lucky Mac and Utah International. Several companies and many decades later, Gunny left a legacy of significant ore body discoveries both in Wyoming and Australia and lasting friendships with his many colleagues in the uranium business. During his years in the Gas Hills, he also found time to obtain his Masters in Geology from the University of Wyoming. Over the next 30 years, Gunny's career in the uranium business flourished. While with Teton Exploration, he spent five years in Australia. After leaving Australia, Gunny retired from Teton Exploration in 1982 and he and Lois moved to Arivaca, AZ where they enjoyed rural living before moving to Grand Junction in 1995. During this time they spent most summers at their home on the Wind River, enjoying the company of their Wyoming friends in Dubois. Gunny was active in the Episcopal Church wherever he lived, and served on several volunteer fire departments where his EMT and managerial skills were welcomed both as a first responder and Board member. He was also a member of the Palisade Lions Club. Gunny was a kind, loving father, a devoted husband, and good man who inspired those who knew him. He will be remembered with much love and gratitude for his enthusiasm for life, his unfailing support of his family, and his generosity to those in need, whether family or friends. A memorial service for Gunny is planned for 10:00 a.m., February 10, 2012, at St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Grand Junction. Gunny's wife, Lois; sons, Mike and Stuart Neumann and their wives, Analee and Wendy; daughter, Sally Hill and husband, Jeff invite you to help us celebrate his life. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Kate and Charla, and great-grandson, Railin. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to The Hospice in Grand Junction, St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Grand Junction, or the Donald L. Blackstone Scholarship Fund at the University of Wyoming.

Dear Lois and family. We are very sorry for your loss. Gunny was a great neighbor. We will miss him. Especially his teasing about my strawberries. God Bless you all. Vickie and Dave Knob
