Iain McKay Obituary

Iain McKay January 2, 1948 – March 23, 2012 Iain McKay passed away on March 23, 2012, at the age of 64 at the VA Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. Iain was born January 2, 1948, in Glasgow, Scotland. His family immigrated to the United States in 1953, and settled in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Iain graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1966, where he was a star gymnast. He attended Albert Lee State College in Winnona, Minnesota, where he majored in Sociology. In 1970, Iain enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1975. Iain was employed in various construction and sales positions over the years and later found his calling as a Psychiatric Technician for the Developmentally Disabled at the Grand Junction Regional Center. He was an avid hiker and camper, exploring many areas of Utah's red rocks country and the Colorado mountains, especially around Lake Irwin. He also loved to cook and made many great meals for friends. Iain was a volunteer at KAFM Radio in Grand Junction and also for the Obama 2008 presidential campaign. Iain was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret McKay, and by his older brother, Rod McKay of North Port, Florida. His younger brother, Alistair McKay of Sault St. Marie, Michigan, passed away shortly after Iain's death after a long struggle with cancer. Iain was a stubborn Scotsman with unshakable opinions, and was a loyal friend to the end. He will be missed by many. All of his friends wish to express their deepest appreciation to the VA Hospital staff for their wonderful end-of-life hospice care. An Honor Guard service will be held at the VA Cemetery on May 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Junction VA Medical Center Hospice/CLC Fund, 2121 North Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.

So sorry to hear of Iains passing. He was my favorite when I would get to work with him. He kept my confidences and I will always keep his. You don't know how much I appreciated your encouragement on those bad days. Rest in peace and go with God.
