Michael Lacy Obituary

Michael Joseph Lacy February 12, 1945 - August 29, 2009 Michael Joseph Lacy (Grand Junction, CO) passed away Saturday, August 29th 2009 with his family by his side after fighting a battle with complications from a stroke and respiratory related illness. Mike touched many lives from his birth to his death, achieving many accomplishments along his journey in life. He enlisted in the military in 1963. Mike was a Sergeant for the United States Marine Corps and served four years until he was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart after being wounded in Vietnam. He attended Texas A&M University for several years. Post-military Mike moved to Leadville, CO and began working for Climax Molybdenum for 18 years. Mike continued his career with the State of Colorado working with road maintenance around Leadville. Mike moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1990 and continued working with the State in various capacities until his retirement in December 2008. In Mike's spare time he was an avid sportsman who loved hunting in the fall and fishing in the warm sun on the lakes of Colorado and Utah - spending time with his growing family and loving the life that was donated to him. Many thanks go out to the staff at University of Colorado Hospital (Dr. Lyu, Dr. Zamora) for giving Mike an opportunity to fulfill his life dreams, and equal thanks to the amazing staff at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center for keeping Mike in good-spirits, physically active, and to feel at-home during the final months of his battle. Mike is preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Ann Lacy and Adele Marie Robertson; father, William Henry; mother, Lorita Nell (Harlan); grandson, Christopher Michael; granddaughter, Kelly Jo. He is survived by his brother, William Henry, Jr. (Annette), Fentress, TX; twin brother, Patrick (Cynthia), Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Glenda (Don) Shows, Demming, NM; daughter, Suzanne, Aurora, CO; sons, Michael Craig (Tami), Glenwood Springs, CO; Michael Ryan, Grand Junction, CO, and Timothy Michael, Denver, CO; as well as many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Two services will be held: a Memorial Saturday, September 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center Chapel and a final goodbye on Saturday, September 26th at 1:00 p.m. on Mount Massive (Leadville, Colorado), with a reception to follow at the Leadville Elks Club Hall. Mike preferred no donations of flowers and in lieu, asks you to consider your donation status and the gift of life.
