Patrick Duffy Obituary

Patrick Harrison Duffy
May 6, 1933 - June 30, 2016
Patrick Harrison Duffy passed on to eternal life on June 30, 2016, in Las Vegas, NV. He joins his beloved wife, Virginia "Ginger" Read, and sons, Michael Leo and John Patrick Duffy. He was living with his daughter and son-in-law in Las Vegas due to his declining health. He will be greatly missed, but now is at peace with those he missed so dearly.
Pat was born in Mangum, Oklahoma, on May 6, 1933, to Marcus Leo and Gertrude Howard Duffy. He joined older sisters, Loretta and Lisa. Two years later Kathryn was born and as the years passed, Marcus, Michael, Clydellan, and Paul joined the Duffy family. In 1939 the family moved to Oklahoma City, OK. Pat attended high school, worked odd jobs, and learned how to repair almost anything that needed fixing.
In February of 1952, Pat joined the U.S. Navy, stationed out of Pearl Harbor on the USS Salisbury Sound as an Engineer Man Fireman. He made several trips to Okinawa, Japan, and surrounding areas.
During the time he was in the service, he had a cousin, Bengie Howard, that was attending Grand Junction High School, and she had a good friend named Ginger. Bengie convinced Ginger to become pen pals with Pat while he was overseas. They met while he was on leave and soon married on July 3, 1955, in Grand Junction. When he was discharged, they made their permanent home here and had three children. They were lifelong members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. They had been married 51 years when Ginger passed away April 2007.
Pat worked as a warehouseman/inventory specialist for several mining equipment companies, including S&M Supply and then B&H Machinery, which was owned by good friends, Bill Huff and George Boyer. He retired around 1998, then spent time volunteering with his wife at the church and St. Mary's Hospital. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating on the river and surrounding lakes, both with his family and friends, playing cards whenever possible, and repairing anything that needed repairing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Besides his wife and sons, Pat is predeceased by his parents, Leo and Gertie. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Michael Ziegler of Las Vegas; sisters, Loretta Flow of Oklahoma City; Lisa Mitchell of Dallas, TX; Kathryn Bare of Chico, CA, and Clydellan (Jerry) Alden of Palmdale, CA; brothers, Marcus (Kathy), Michael (Denise), and Paul (Margaret) Duffy of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jeremiah of Twin Falls, ID; Daniel (Brea) of Nampa, ID; Paul of Haley, ID; Cassidy and Allison Ziegler of Las Vegas, NV; Jacob Ziegler of Seattle, WA; Ashlee Duffy of Grand Junction, and Mikayla Duffy of Greeley, CO; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Services are scheduled at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 790 26 ½ Road on Friday, July 15, at 3:00 p.m.. He will be interred with his wife.
Donations may be made in his name to HopeWest Hospice, Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, or Holy Family School.
