Ruby Caffrey Obituary

Ruby G. Caffrey March 5, 1925 - October 21, 2005 Ruby G. Caffrey of Grand Junction passed away October 21, 2005 at her home. She was 80 years old. Services will be at the Martin Mortuary Chapel on Thursday October 27, 2005 at 10am with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pastor Dave Bottroff will be officiating. Ruby was born March 3, 1925 to Edward L. and Edith (Roweton) Patterson in Taiban, NM. Ruby spent her childhood in Taiban, New Mexico and graduated from Taiban High School and attended East New Mexico University in Portales, NM. In 1974 she married Gerald R. Caffrey in Boulder, CO. Ruby was a resident of Grand Junction, CO for 30 years and was also a resident of Boulder, CO and Cheyenne, WY. Through Ruby's career she was a telephone operator and was a member of Telephone Pioneers; AARP and several bowling clubs. She attended Grand Junction Seventh-Day Adventist Church and her interests were horses, Harley's and bowling. Ruby's two sons' (Sheldon & Bobb) convinced her to purchase a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger "Hot Rod". Driving home from the dealership on the day of purchase her sons convinced her to "Punch it"! turning on to Canyon Blvd. in Boulder. After the new Hot Rod stopped doing Do-Nuts, Ruby was pointing south in the North bound laneÉ. Surviving Ruby are sons, Sheldon C. Johnston of Agworth, GA; Bobb L. Johnston of Berthoud, CO; sisters, Allie Hawthorne of Inola, OK; Virginia Patterson of Bartlett, IL; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald, brothers Buddy Patterson, Bill Patterson, son Gary Johnston and sister Dorthy Patterson. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Martin Mortuary.

Ruby was a wonderful friend to my grandmother, Martha Fox. Now, the two of them will be together again. Old Friendships never die, the friends just meet again in heaven.
