Lessil Powell Obituary

Our beloved father, son, brother, husband, and loyal friend Lessil James Powell left us Monday, October 26, 2009. He was born in Chico, California on January 9, 1951, to Lucille and the late Lloyd Powell.

As a young man Lessil was an outstanding member of the FFA and the rifle club. He graduated from Orland High School in 1969 and studied agronomy at Shasta College. Lessil spent his life working alongside his brother at Powell Apiaries in Orland. He grew organic kiwis at the family ranch as well as the sweetest homegrown tomatoes in the valley, possibly the world. He cured olives for his family recipe. Lessil was a hunter and a fisherman. He was a talented photographer and documented his family life, work, friends, and the great outdoors.

Lessil's passing is mourned by the many people whose lives he has touched: his wife Louise, his three daughters Emmy Rose, Laura Lynn, and Jessie Jane Powell, two stepsons Richie and John Peterson, his mother, brother David , sisters Susan Steuben and Monicia Powell, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Lessil Powell will be missed by all.

Visitation will be Monday November 2, 2009, from 4-8 at Sweet and son Mortuary 825 A St, Orland, California. Funeral services will be Tuesday November 3rd at 11:00 Am at the mortuary. Interment will take place at Orland Cemetery.

I remember Lessil when he lived down the street from me. His sister Susan and & I would drive him crazy on a regular basis.

Lessil was a quiet man around campus, as we went through school together, though you knew he was a good guy. I remember the last time I saw him was at Andy's Butcher Block, we chatted for a moment, wished each other well.
So sad to loose him. My sympathy to all of his family.

First of all, I would like to express my deepest sympathies. I was lucky enough to have known, and to have been a part of Uncle Lessil's life for 42 years. He was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed! My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you who loved him, and were fortunate enough to have been loved by him.

Love,

Kerri
