Carol Lynn Burnett
March 20, 1941 - July 7, 2025
Carol Lynn Burnett, age 84, formerly of Rockford, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Nora Springs Care Center. Funeral arrangements are with Fullerton Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St NW, Rockford. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the church with Pastor Chan Gok Kim officiating. Carol will be laid to rest following the service at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. In expression of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Rockford Fossil and Prairie Center or the Rockford Public Library.
Carol was born on March 20, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa, to Willis Ford Drewry and Anne Elizabeth (Davenport) Drewry. Carol attended country school at Douglas 6 from kindergarten through fourth grade and then graduated from Sac City High School in 1959, where she participated in choir and 4-H. Carol then earned her bachelor's degree from the State College of Iowa and obtained her teaching license after graduation. Carol worked for the RRMR school district as a media specialist/librarian for 30-plus years. She was united in marriage to Richard Thomas Losee on December 29, 1963, and to their union, their son, Kevin, was born. They were married until Richard's passing in March of 1968. Carol then remarried to Tommy Burnett on December 30, 1968, and to their union, their son, Greg, was born. Carol became a widow after Tommy's passing in 2019. Her home was in Rockford from 1962 until three years ago when she began living at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Carol was very involved in the Rockford community and community betterment; she served on the library board for many years and the Rockford Fossil and Prairie Center board. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and National Education Association. She belonged to "The Lunch Ladies" club that met once a month. She also supported both her sons in Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts. Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Carol was an avid reader and enjoyed bridge club and playing cards with family. She looked forward to her weekend shopping trips with her granddaughters, Mallory and Selena, and chocolate malts for breakfast with her grandson, Ethan. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Kevin (Julie) Losee of Hanlontown, Iowa and Greg Burnett of Rockford; grandchildren, Mallory (Adam) Oppermann, Selena (Cory) Mackedanz and Ethan (Danielle) Losee; great-grandchildren, Noah Oppermann, Avery Oppermann and Audrey Mackedanz; sister, Judy (Larry) Johnson of Frederick, Md.; brothers, Noel (Sandra) Drewry of Jefferson, Iowa and Bill (Jeanette) Drewry of Mesquite, Nev.; stepsisters, Joan Stone and Judy Kruckenberg; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by both her husbands; parents; stepfather, Harvey Willert; and stepbrother, Ron Willert.
