MASON CITY | Clyde Thornton, 82, of Mason City, passed away September 5, 2017 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Epiphany Parish-Holy Family Catholic Church, 722 North Adams Avenue, Mason City, with Reverend Neil Manternach officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 6:00 P.M. followed by a wake service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Epiphany Parish.
Clyde Thornton was born September 29, 1934, son of Glen and Helen (Stebritz) Thornton. Clyde graduated from the Mason City High School. He was united in marriage to Virgene Price on March 7, 1957, in Mason City; to this union four sons were born. In 1986, Clyde and Virgene moved to West Chicago, Illinois, until Clyde's retirement in 1993, then they moved back to Mason City.
He is a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Moose Lodge, Mason City.
Clyde will be remembered as a man of many gifts and abilities from God, his music, woodworking, sewing, and cooking to name a few. But he said, "the blessing he cherished the most, was his ability to make people laugh".
He is survived by his sons, Patrick (Pam) Thornton, LeClaire, IA, Matthew (Heather) Thornton, Buffalo, MN, Thomas (Suzanne) Thornton, Naperville, Illinois, Timothy Thornton, Mason City; daughter, Kelly Amour, Oswego, Illinois; grandchildren, Andrea (Jason) Otten, Erica (Andrew) Caswell, Stephanie and Sarah Sissel, Thomas, Ryan and Elizabeth Thornton, Katherine and Amanda Thornton; great granddaughter, Amalia Caswell; sister, Ila LaPole; sister in-law, Nancy Finlayson; brother in-law, Dennis Price, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Helen Thornton; wife, Virgene Thornton; siblings, Eugene (Vietta), Glenn, and Frank (Colleen) Thornton, and Maxine (Bob) Funk.
