Debra Faught Obituary

MASON CITY - Debra "Deb" Suzanne Faught, 49, died Thursday (June 3, 2010) at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City following a two year long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Art Zewert officiating.
Visitation for Deb will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Monday.
Deb Faught, the daughter of Gary and Deloris Faught, was born on Oct. 10, 1960, in Carroll, Iowa. At the age of 3, the family moved to Mason City. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1979. Deb then attended NIACC. After NIACC she graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in medical technology.
Following graduation Deb worked at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin, Minn., for four years. She then moved to Iowa City and was employed as a medical technologist for 22 years at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Her co-workers there became not just close friends but also her second family.
Deb was diagnosed with ALS in 2008 and due to her illness moved to the Nora Springs Care Center this past February.
Deb enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her travels included trips to Hawaii, London, Mexico and the Caribbean. After her ALS diagnosis she took the trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand. Deb's caring and generous heart will be missed by all those close to her.
Deb is survived by her parents, Gary and Deloris Faught of Mason City; a sister, Diane Quail of Forest City; a nephew, Cory Quail of Mason City; and her many friends and co-workers in Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and by her nephew, Nathan Quail.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Deb Faught Memorial Fund where contributions will be distributed toward ALS research and to programs for suicide prevention and loss.
Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 641-423-0924. www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com

Dear Faught Family~ To witness your strength and love today was incredibly inspiring. Earlier I wrote 'difficulties' but that word should be 'tragedies'. Yet you see inside and upwards, and model for the rest of us the blend of mourning and celebrating a life. With much admiration~

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. When I think of Deb I think of badmitten and football in your yard and Poochie Dog! What I remember most about Deb is that when my Dad died, she was the one who grabbed ahold of me and hugged me as I cried in disbelief. I've never forgoten that. These words are not ment to sadden you, but to bring a smile to your face in remembering how caring she was even at a young age. I pray that you may find peace and comfort in your many memories of her. RIP Deb.

Deb and the rest of you Faught family are such an inspiration. Your strength has been modeled for the rest of us without you even intending to. You have just dealt with difficulties showing spirituality and positiveness that are greatly admired. Thinking of you~Pam Spindler
