Eloise Abbott

MASON CITY - Eloise Abbott, 75, of 400 Highway 18, Clear Lake, died Monday (Dec. 28, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held for Eloise at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Larry Day officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight (Dec. 30, 2009) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to the Eloise Abbott Memorial Fund.
Eloise Abbott was born on Dec. 17, 1934, to Leslie and Elizabeth Hockensmith in Boone. Eloise spent her childhood years in Boone and graduated from the Boone High School amongst the class of 1953.
On Jan. 13, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald B. Abbott in Arkansas, to this union four children were born.
Eloise and Donald would eventually move to Mason City, where Eloise began to take classes at North Iowa Area Community College. In 1970, Eloise graduated NIACC as a licensed practitioner nurse.
She truly loved being a nurse. She began her career working for the Washington Nursing Home following her graduation in 1970. In 1973 Eloise began working for the Heritage Care Center. Eloise also worked at the IOOF Home from 1976 until her retirement.
Eloise held many hobbies, including playing bingo, dancing at the VFW and shopping. Eloise also loved traveling with her friends, especially going on cruises! But perhaps her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Eloise is survived by her three sons, Donald (Kathy) Abbott of Vacaville, Calif., David (Liz) Abbott of Clear Lake and Dennis (Sheral) Abbott of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Leslie Jo Hoffman of Janesville, Minn., Melissa Ann Abbott of Houston, Texas, Rocky Reed Abbott of Independence, Kenyon Clark Abbott of Hemet, Calif., Jason William Abbott of Hemet, Calif., Harley David Abbott of Clear Lake, Michael Nathan Davidson of Oceanside, Calif., Billy Neal Davidson of Clear Lake, Heidi Elizabeth Davidson of Clear Lake, Benjamin Michael Davidson of Clear Lake, Hailey Ann Davidson of Clear Lake, Skye Lee Lovik of Clear Lake, Zachary Allen Abbott of Cedar Falls, Alicia Jo Abbott of Clear Lake, Todd Harris of Vacaville, Calif., Scott Harris of Vacaville, Calif., and Melanie Harris of Vacaville, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Jo Hoffman, Heather Lee Hoffman and Briar Elizabeth Lovik.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald; a daughter, Denise Lovik; a grandson, Baby Boy Abbott; and a brother, Dean Hockensmith.
