Eugene Galen "Hoot" Berhow, 78, of Britt, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025 at Westview Care Center in Britt.
A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Eugene Berhow was born on September 26, 1946, in Kanawha, Iowa, to parents Galen and Elsie (Olthoff) Berhow. He attended Kanawha Public School.
He was united in marriage to Rhonda Wright in Canton, South Dakota. To this union two sons were born, Jesse and Jamie. The couple raised their family in Stanhope, Iowa.
Eugene enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1965, where he faithfully served in the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in 1967, after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves until 1971.
Eugene worked as an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for many years, until he suffered a brain stem stroke.
Eugene is survived by his son, Jamie Berhow of Britt; daughter-in-law Jaclyn Berhow of Stratford; grandchildren Gunnar, Chase (Carlee), Braden, Brock, Brooklyn; brother-in-law David Kabrick; sister-in-law Ramona Wright; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rhonda Berhow, son Jesse Berhow, brother-in-law Randy Wright.

I'll never forget my first vision of Uncle Hoot... he came roaring up the street on that awesome orange Triumph of his... man, I'm having a hard time here...I've missed all the passing of my favorite aunts & uncles ... Aunt Moni, Aunt Rhonda, Uncle Randy & Uncle Hoot... Uncle Dave & my 'other" Aunt Moni, I'm coming for a visit, gonna try for early June when I'll still have gas money! Jamie, I need phone numbers, bud... call or text me at 515-418-0207 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! This is Tracy, BTW, Carl & LaVera's eldest daughter... you may not remember me, but Aunt Moni will... I really really want to get in touch with her & you & Uncle Dave, please call me or text me! I just found Uncle Hoots's obituary & then see that the memorial service was today at 10:30AM... had I seen this 2 hours ago, I would be there to say a heartfelt goodbye to one of the coolest uncles a girl could have! I always adored me some Uncle Hoot, man! Such a wonderfully magical aura he had!
