Jerry L. Smith Sr.

MASON CITY- Jerry Lee Smith, Sr., 82, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Good Shepherd Health Center. As per Jerry's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services held at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family of Jerry Smith, Sr.

Jerry was born October 20, 1942, to Laverne and Ruth (Sterweld) Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. Following his graduation from Mason City High School in 1960, Jerry enlisted with the United States Marines. Over the next few years, he served far and wide overseas, from Okinawa to the Panama Canal, before he was honorably discharged and returned to civilian life.

After his service, Jerry served as a supervisor at the Winnebago plant in Forest City for many years. Among other jobs, he moved out west and worked for Golden West Manufactured Homes, before returning to the Mason City area as a groundskeeper for the Mason City School District.

In his spare time, Jerry was a skilled craftsman, spending his time honing his woodworking craft. He also enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR races. Jerry especially treasured his Saturday morning breakfasts with his friends. He was a confident, hardworking individual with a commanding presence that will be sorely missed.

Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry Jr.; his daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Jensen; his sister, Linda Smith; his close friend, Staci Rasmus; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Erma Smith; his parents, and his son, Randy Smith.
