John "Jack" "Daddy Jack" Dunagan

February 24, 1939 - June 27, 2024

John "Jack" "Daddy Jack" Dunagan, 85, of Mason City, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024, in Mason City. He was born February 24, 1939, in Douglas, MN, to Austin and Irene (Quick) Dunagan.

Jack pursued education at Commercial College in Mankato, MN, and furthered his studies at the University of Wisconsin's School of Banking and the National School of Real Estate Finance at Ohio State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, embodying a spirit of duty and service.

Throughout his life, Jack was deeply involved in his community and held memberships in the Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and Epiphany Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church. He maintained a strong connection to his Irish Catholic heritage, embodying traits of respect, integrity, and gentlemanliness. Known for his straightforward honesty and unwavering commitment to his word, Jack was admired by all who knew him.

On January 28, 1965, Jack married Dixie Field and they shared nearly 60 years of marriage together. His family was the center of his world, and he found his greatest joy and fulfillment in their love and companionship, and the companionship of his beloved cat, Whitey.

Jack Dunagan will be remembered for his generosity, his steadfast principles, and his profound love for his family. He was employed for many years in Charles City and Mason City, and retired after a long tenured career at First Citizens National Bank in 2004.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dixie; children, Michael Dunagan, Michelle (Mark) Bailey, and Matthew (Carol) Dunagan; his granddaughter and great granddaughter, Hattie Hopkins and Dottie; sister, Delores Archer; sisters-in-law, Dianne Harrold and Debbie Gitch; brother-in-law, Larry Stewart; many nieces and nephews; extended relatives and many friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mitchell Dunagan; brothers-in-law, John Archer, Bill Harrold, and Darwin Gitch; and sisters-in-law, Dolores Abel, Darlene Lyman, and Donna Stewart.

Jack's family will honor him with a private family service at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel. Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Jack's honor to the Humane Society of North Iowa or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
