Kurtis True Obituary

MASON CITY - Kurtis E. True, 56, of 422 Fourth St. N.E., Mason City, died Tuesday morning (Nov. 18, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Following services, Kurtis' body will be cremated at Cremation Services of North Iowa.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Kurtis True Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.Fullertonfh.com.

Kurtis was born on Jan. 17, 1952, in Mason City, the son of Clifford and Camella "Wilkerson" True Sr. He attended school in Mason City. At age 18, he bought his first Harley-Davidson Chopper and toured the West Coast, along the Mississippi and ended up in Minneapolis for a while. He returned to Mason City in 1975 and worked at AMPI in maintenance.

He owned his own tattoo equipment and was skillful in his artwork for friends and family. Kurtis loved to be with his friends on many social occasions. He was united in marriage to Julie Erdmann and to this union was born one daughter, Heather. He was very proud of all of her accomplishments.

His love of motorcycles often led him on road trips to Sturgis and other locations on his 1954 Harley Panhead Chopper and sometimes just to get lost living to ride. He was a free spirit and a bit of a rebel. He said what was on his mind, but you always knew that he cared, especially when he was around the family, kids and his grandsons. He lived his life to help others and was willing to lend a helping hand anytime to anyone.

Kurtis enjoyed raising exotic animals, which included a parrot, iguana and many different dogs. His favorite dog was Harry Houdini.

Those who shared his life include his daughter, Heather Rae and her husband, Darren Peterson; and the three grandsons: Cole, Brent and Lukas, Janesville, Wis.; his brothers, Loren and his wife, Linda Wilkerson, of Solon, Gary and his wife, JaeLea True, of Osage, Rick True and half brother, Cliff and his wife, Crystal True, all of Mason City; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Deb Waters, of Mason City; along with a whole host of riding buddies.

His grandson Jacob who died Nov. 26, 2002, and his parents preceded him in death.

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. An Irish Blessing.

Kurt, you were a great brother. You were my brother by choice. As soon as my Mother married your Dad, you took on the role of protector and loved me. Thank you for taking care of our little brother after our Mom died. I love and miss you.

To Deb, Rick, Cliff and Heather. and the rest of the true family. My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. Kurt was a great friend to me when I was growing up as a little kid on the same city block. He took so much pride in his daughter Heather and his bikes and pets. He was the first friend to let me ride his full dresser "police special" Harley Davidson. I love that bike, and his brother Cliff and I would go cruising with some young lady's. Had a great time. Kurt loved family and a lot of people loved him as well. Kurt I will see you in haven!

I knew Kurt from the Warehouse 10 days. His favorite song from back then was "My Woman From Tokyo". Talk about out of the vault. He taught me how to play fooshball, one nite @ the Warehouse we held the table for 14 games straight! We used to cruise around in his big ol' blue blazer he called his Milkman truck. He was so much fun to run around with. I remember him carrying Heather around when she was just a little baby, he was so proud to be her daddy! When Cliff was killed he was so heart-broken. Now they're together again hanging out in Heaven. God Bless you Kurt!!

To the True Family,

Love is Loss

The greater the love we share,
The greater the loss we bare,
The loyalty that you portray
Will guard you all along the way,

The love that has been given you,
Is doubled, as it passes through
Your tender heart, Your gentle hand,
And now you try to understand,

And cannot bear the pain of loss,
Yet you'll survive: what'ere the cost.
Your heart will shed those unshed tears,
And you will remember, through all the years

The loves you've shared, the lives you've touched.
You will know that you have been loved so much.
Someday, when life on earth is done,
Your friends will meet you, one by one,

Oh what great joy !! beyond compare,
When you are greeted by your friends there,
and taken safely to the throne of God,
You will rejoice in every path you now must trod.

Goodbyes are not forever.
Goodbyes are not the end.
They simply mean I'll miss you
Until we meet again!

I love you Kurt and will always remember my first ride, my first tattoo you gave me and my first driving lesson in the blazer when I hit the mailbox. There were so many special things you did for me in my life and I will see you again in heaven.

Lord as I ride this cycle, keep my hands in yours.

Let me enjoy my life and freedom while keeping me safe from harm.

Allow the beauty of life to dazzle me,
but keep my feet firmly planted on the pegs.

Guide me down the twisting roads leading me to tomorrow while keeping me on the straight and narrow of today.

Bring me home safely to my loved ones.

Help me to remember that you are always my passenger.

Let me live my life to the fullest until you call for me.

Amen.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
