My Grandpa Leland was one of the best grandpas ever! I have so many wonderful memories that I could never fit them all here. Here are a few, though:
* Fishing for bullheads
* Camping at Clear Lake
* Colorado Vacation
* Canada Vacation
* Wisconsin Dells
* Coming to all of my concerts, recitals, games, musicals ... even as an adult, you continued to support me by coming to many concerts and musicals
* Waking Grandma up in the middle of the night to check on me when I got scared when I spent the night in Tripoli
* Hanging up the phone without saying "good-bye"
* Many good phone conversations
* Your unconditional support and smile whenever I saw you
* The Christmas that all of the grandkids brought their musical instruments and we played carols. You held my music for me. I was out of college and teaching at the time. Someone took a picture and you were beaming! It's one of my most favorite memories of all :)
We have all been blessed to have you in our lives.

I have so many wonderful memories with Grandpa. Grandpa was a man of character and love. I always knew he loved us grandkids and was proud of us. I remember Grandpa and his gum. It was always a treat to crawl up on his lap and ask him for a piece of double mint gum or juicy fruit gum. If you were lucky you might get a full piece, most times he would give us a half a piece. And who could forget his toothpicks. He never was with out his toothpick holder. I was privileged to spend almost every spring break when I was little with Grandpa and Grandma. Often times our days were not that eventful, but we would spend time playing cards, shooting hoops, or sitting on the porch swing out in front of the house talking. The simple things in life—Grandpa was good at those things. I can't even imagine how many hours grandpa spent watching us all play our sporting games and numerous dance recitals and concerts. There is something very special for a child to look out and see their grandparents and Grandpa never missed one. It is a great feeling to think that every important event in my life from my birth to graduation to my wedding to the birth of my own children, I remember Grandpa being right there cheering me on and looking very proud. I will treasure each and every memory I have of grandpa. He was a pillar of strength and character for our family. Thank you grandpa for your love, support, and guidance. I will take these with me for the rest of my life. I leave you Grandpa with a special zerb—our trademark. I will not say Goodbye, because you never said goodbye—instead I will say yep- until we meet again.

Al, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Even though I never met your dad, he sounded like a great man - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Thanks for all your efforts in Junior High Algebra. Soli deo Gloria.
