Lorenz Daleske Obituary

Lorenz Daleske

April 25, 1938 - November 1, 2025

Lorenz Daleske, 87, of Mason City, passed away peacefully at his home on November 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Epiphany Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St, with Rev. David O'Connor as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Elmwood St Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, with a Scriptural Wake service beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Lorenz was born April 25, 1938, in Eldora, Iowa, to Herbert and Tena (Granzow) Daleske. He was raised in Iowa Falls along with his three siblings. A proud graduate of Mason City High School, Class of 1956, Lorenz graduated alongside his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Haijsman. The two were united in marriage in 1957 and were blessed with three daughters, who remained the joy and pride of his life. Together Mary Ann and Lorenz shared 38 years of marriage before her passing in 1996.

On August 1, 1998, Lorenz was united in marriage to Donna Borcherding, with whom he shared 27 wonderful years. Together, they enjoyed time with family, supporting Newman Catholic School athletics-especially baseball and football-and embracing life's simple joys.

Lorenz worked alongside his father-in-law at the family business, Floyd and Leonard Auto Electric. He was proud to be a second-generation owner and operator, dedicating more than 60 years to serving customers and the community before proudly passing the torch to his son-in-law, Tom.

Lorenz had a deep love of nature and outdoors, a passion he shared with his family. The family created many lasting memories camping, traveling, and exploring the beauty of places such as the North Shore Lake Superior.

A proud Mason City Mohawk, Lorenz cherished his high school friendships and was an active member of the class dinner group and reunion committee. He was a faithful member of St Joseph Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a strong supporter of Newman Catholic Schools.

Lorenz was deeply devoted to his family and loved cheering on his grandchildren at their many activities. A loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan, he treasured attending games at Kinnick Stadium and spent many years as a season ticketholder. He found great peace and happiness spending time at his cabins on Lake Superior, Table Rock, and Clear Lake-always drawn to the water and the tranquility it brought.

Lorenz will be remembered as a quiet, humble, generous, and kind man whose faith and love for family guided his life.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Daleske; daughters, Julie (Robert) Thomas, Nancy (Tom) Abbas, and Sue (Ed) Kent; Donna's children, Jean (Mike) Wuertzer; Cindy (Bob) Long, and Bob Borcherding; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many extended relatives and friends.

Lorenz is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; parents, Herbert and Tena; sister, Marie Cowell; and brothers, Ken and Merle Daleske.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Santana for her love and care during Lorenz's final days, and to the team at St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate support.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Lorenz's honor to Epiphany Parish or Newman Catholic Schools.
