Mildred Kreitlow Obituary

KANAWHA - Mildred Kreitlow, 93, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Kanawha Community Home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church in Kanawha, with Pastors Geoffrey and Charlotte White officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Sunday, June 10, at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second St., in Kanawha, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mildred Marie Kreitlow, the daughter of William C. and Emma (Kroll-Lenz) Rockow, was born on Aug. 2, 1918, in Alexander. She received her education in country schools and graduated from Garner High School in 1935.
On Oct. 2, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lee Wallace Kreitlow at her parents' home in the Dows/Galt area. The couple farmed north of Garner until moving to Kanawha in 1946. They farmed east of Kanawha until 1980. In their retirement, Mildred and Wallace enjoyed traveling, visiting their children and grandchildren.
Wallace passed away in 1985 and Mildred remained on the home place for a few more years. In 1988, she moved in to town.
Mildred was an active and faithful member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, played piano and was a member of ALCW. She enjoyed quilting, being a 4-H leader, helping on the farm, bowling and card clubs. Mildred was always a great hostess always trying to feed you.
Mildred is survived by her son, Harley (Marcia) Kreitlow of Kanawha; daughters, Janaan Wiegand of Ankeny and Rebecca (Ron) Swaney of Marshall, Mich.; son-in-law, Jim Stroud of Des Moines; grandchildren: Douglas (Diana) Kreitlow, Patricia Kreitlow (Rob Graham), Tara (Mike) Finke, Lana (Brad) Overturf, Russell Swaney, Ray Swaney and Rhonda Swaney (David Bowers); step-grandchildren: Jerry (Sherri) Stroud, Brian (Kelly) Stroud and Bob (Doris) Stroud; seven great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Fannie Rockow of Belmond and Bernita Pals of Clear Lake; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother; husband Wally; daughter Cheryl; brothers Harold and Frederick "Fritz" Rockow and step-brothers Melvin, Lauren and Marion Kreitlow.
