Mildred 'Millie' Westling
OSAGE - Mildred "Millie" Westling, 88, of Osage, joined her husband Keith in heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. She passed away at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Ave., Osage, Iowa, with Pastor David A. Werges officiating. Inurnment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Millie was born March 27, 1927, in Lyle, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Rena (Nelson) Sampson. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1945 and from Austin Community College in 1947. She then worked in the treasurer's office in Austin, Minnesota.
On May 23, 1954, she married Keith Westling at Six Mile Grove Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Millie was a homemaker and assisted Keith on the farm. She also did babysitting. Millie was the secretary at Rock Creek Lutheran Church for 34 years, where she also taught Sunday School and Bible School and was active in the Rachel Circle. Millie was a member of the North Iowa Rosemaling group. She enjoyed sewing, rosemaling, fishing, camping, playing cards, and talking to friends on the phone. Millie especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Millie is survived by her children, Barb Onken (Rick) of Rudd, Karen Dunlay (Bill) of St. Charles, Minnesota, and Jeff Westling (Angel) of Osage; grandchildren, Laura Onken Arcenas (Rodney) of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Melanie Onken of Waterloo, Scott Onken of Waterloo, Jamie Dunlay (Naomi) of Chester, Minnesota, Cory Dunlay (Kaitlin Tuohy) of St. Charles, Minnesota, Katie Dunlay (Derek Doane) of Plainview, Minnesota, Jake Westling of Byron, Minnesota, and Alyssa Westling of Osage; great-grandchildren, Jade and Jaxson Arcenas, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Brayden, Holden, Payten, Jamie Jr., and Raylen Dunlay of Chester, Minnesota; sister, Marilyn Rockafellow of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Gladys Sampson of St. Ansgar; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Westling in 2015; her parents, Oscar and Rena Sampson; her in-laws, Carl Westling and Mildred and Stanley Williams; sisters, Cleo Weness and Enid Patterson; brother, Russell Sampson; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Weness, Donald Patterson, and Dean Rockafellow.
