Myrtle Enabnit Obituary

NORA SPRINGS - Myrtle Marie Enabnit, 91, died Thursday (June 26, 2008) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorials services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor Tom Healey officiating. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Memorials may be directed to the Myrtle M. Enabnit Memorial Fund.

Myrtle Marie Hurd was born Aug. 1, 1916, in Greene, the daughter of Clifton and Ellen M. (Maxwell) Hurd. She graduated from high school and started teaching country school. She was united in marriage to Ivan Enabnit; to this union four children were born. Myrtle graduated from LaJames Beauty School, having her own salon in her home in Clear Lake and Swaledale. Later she worked part time for the school in Swaledale while attending college in Cedar Falls to continue her education in teaching. Myrtle finished her education at Drake University with her bachelor's degree. She taught in country schools, later teaching in the Nora Springs School system for several years; retiring in 1980.

Myrtle enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, canvas, needle work, collecting Beanie Babies, playing canasta, canning, making homemade cinnamon rolls, homemade bread and she really loved traveling. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Nora Springs and bridge club

She is survived by her children, Larry (Sharon) Enabnit of Rockford, Pat (Kim) Coates of Elkhart, Ind., and Joy Enabnit Price of Nora Springs; son-in-law, Howard (Jan) Johnson; grandchildren, Laura (John) Marsan, Howard Jr. (Peggy) Johnson, Aaron (Kimberly) Coates, Ryan (Kate) Coates, Bridgette, Chad, Matthew and Renee Price, Alison (Jason) Wittenauer, Adam Enabnit; along with 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judy Johnson; four brothers and one sister.
