Obed Ladd Obituary

NORTHWOOD - Obed Jerome Ladd, 62, of Edgemont, S.D., died Monday (May 21, 2007) at the Fort Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis, S.D.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood, with the Rev. Daniel R. Hart of First Lutheran Church in Northwood officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial Chapel 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Otter Creek Cemetery in Highland, Wis., with the Rev. Roger Koester officiating. Members of the state of Wisconsin Military Honors Program will conduct military graveside honors.

Obed Jerome Ladd was born on Feb. 19, 1945, in Dodgeville, Wis., the son of Emery and Gladys (Burtness) Ladd. He attended Northwood schools and was a graduate of Northwood High School.

Following high school, Obed entered the United States Army. He served our country in the Vietnam War where he received numerous medals. After being honorably discharged, he worked road construction in Wisconsin, later going to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. Obed recently retired from the Union Pacific Railroad.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to Alaska, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, spending time with friends, especially his little friend Cadence Hyatt.

He is survived by an aunt, Iva Nell May, of Grass Valley, Calif.; along with many cousins, other relatives and friends.

His parents, Emory and Gladys preceded him in death.

obed, we were waiting for your' xmas card this year, you were always the first one to send us a greeting and to catch up on the news,we will miss stoping in edgemont when we go back to barbaras,we had many a good times and conversations obed,i am glad we remained friends thru out our lives, life has passed way to quickly, and you didn't get to enjoy much of your' retirement, like you told marlene, the golden years aren't so golden, we''l keep the memories alive when we think of you and remember going to deadwood and all the phone calls etc. we are glad that you were our friend, all the way from high school days, we will be waiting to see you again,....john&marlene brown

Obed, it was always such a pleasure to see you around Northwood when we were all in town, to share Alaska stories and just chat. I bet you and Burnell are sharing stories about our high school days. We'll miss you both at our class reunion next summer.
