MASON CITY - Richard Allen Torkelson, 95, of Mason City, was met in heaven by Our Heavenly Father, wife, his parents, son and granddaughter, on (May 27, 2019) at MercyOne - Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, (May 30, 2019) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, with Rev. Kathy Graves, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mason City Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, (May 30, 2019) at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be directed to the family at this time.
Richard Allen Torkelson was born April 29, 1924 in Camby, Minnesota, the son of Oliver and Inga (Nelson) Torkelson. He was united in marriage to Leona Price on September 28, 1946 in Mason City.
He attended the Mason City Schools and received his GED in 1978. Richard enlisted into the Navy, served on the USS Sederstrom during WWII and was honorably discharge in 1946. He worked as a Mechanic for Gibbs-Cook Equipment Company for 39 and a half years and retired in 1986.
Richard enjoyed traveling, fishing, taking trips to the casino and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Torkelson, Mason City, Carol Ann (Gary) Johnson, Mason City; a son, Michael (Aprille) Torkelson, Tyler, TX; grandchildren, Autumn, Richard, David, Dawn, Steven, Casey, Makenzie; and several great-grandchildren and special friend, Linda Jensen.
He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Inga Torkelson; wife, Leona Torkelson; son, Robert Torkelson; granddaughter, Lynn Klinner; brother Melford Torkelson; three sisters, Hazel Harrison, Evelyn Monahan and Betty Stenerson.
