Robert DeWaard Obituary

WODEN - Robert D. DeWaard, 61, of Woden died Thursday (June 16, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Woden Christian Reformed Church, south of Woden, with the Rev. Kevin Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Robert Dean DeWaard, the son of Adrian and Ruth (Meyer) DeWaard, was born Jan. 13, 1944, at Wesley. He was baptized and confirmed at Woden Christian Reformed Church. He attended the rural schools of Bingham and Grant Township in Hancock County and graduated from Woden-Crystal Lake High School in 1962. He continued his education at Dordt College.

He then taught school at Colton Christian School in Colton, S.D., and also did some painting and janitorial work. He enjoyed fishing and playing basketball and baseball.

Bob is survived by his mother, Ruth DeWaard of Woden; two sons: Dale DeWaard and wife, Kelly, of Lincoln, Neb., and Jon DeWaard of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three grandchildren: Amber and Grant Whiteley and Peyton DeWaard; a great-granddaughter, Adrianna Kersey; two sisters: Lois Mouw and husband, Roger, of Colton, S.D., and Carol Regnerus and husband, Gary, of Orange City; a brother, Don DeWaard and wife, Jean, of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian, in 1979.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
