She was born on April 12, 1931, in Tebing Tinggi, Sumatra, Indonesia, to Robert Williams and Adriana van der Scheer. Robin spent her early years on a rubber plantation managed by her father. Her childhood was full of outdoor adventures, animals, and family gatherings-memories she carried with her always. Her life changed dramatically during World War II when she, her mother, and her brother were imprisoned for nearly three years in Japanese POW camps. Even as a young girl, she showed remarkable resilience and courage.
After liberation, the family relocated to Scotland, where Robin continued her education and later attended King's College in Aberdeen. There she earned her degree, played lacrosse, and was crowned homecoming queen.
While in Aberdeen, she met her future husband, Staff Sergeant Joe Vosburgh of the U.S. Air Force. The two married and honeymooned in Lugano, Switzerland before settling in North Iowa. Over the next forty years, Robin dedicated herself to supporting Joe through his military career and decades of disability, all while raising four successful and loving children.
Robin was multilingual, artistic, elegant, and strong. She traveled widely throughout her life and met history more than once-surviving war, witnessing global change, and building a rich and meaningful family life. She treasured her role as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her family remained her greatest joy.
Robin often repeated her mother's phrase, "Ook de ergste dag gaat voorbij" - "Even the worst day will pass." She lived by those words, inspiring everyone around her with her perseverance, compassion, and grace.
She is survived by her four children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family around the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her brother, Chris.
Robin's life was an extraordinary journey, defined by strength, love, and an unbreakable spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
