Roger Christian Obituary

MASON CITY - Roger L. Christian, 73, of 419 28th St. S.W., Mason City, died Tuesday (Jan. 5, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., Mason City, with Pastor Emily Horrell officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs.
Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Roger.
Roger was born May 24, 1936, in Mason City, the son of Gilbert T. and Alma H. (Herem) Christian. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1955. Roger then enlisted in the Army, was stationed in Germany and did security work. He was honorably discharged in 1962.
Roger married Ardith Reynolds on July 10, 1960, in Mason City and to this union four children were born. Roger worked at AMPI as a maintenance supervisor for 43 years before retiring in July 1998.
He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Teamsters.
In his spare time, Roger enjoyed fishing, golfing, fixing things and spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked to go to casinos and was known for his great sense of humor and storytelling.
He is survived by his wife, Ardith, of Mason City; his son, Timothy (Lori) Christian, of Sparta, Tenn.; daughters, Kimberly (Jackie) Frank, of Mason City and Christine (Jerry) Wright, of Mason City; his daughter-in-law Leanne Christian, of Mason City; grandchildren, Matt, Cassie, T.J., Josh, Justice, Jeremy, Thomas and Hunter; his sister, Janis (Ron) Smith, of Hawaii; and many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son, Jon; and his three sisters, Glennis McCellan, Bev Page and Lavonne Thornbury.
