ORCHARD | Ronald Dean Douglas, age 67, of Orchard, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Paul Pickar officiating.
Following the memorial service, there will be a time for food and fellowship at the Osage American Legion Hall.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Stillwater Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Ron was born Aug. 29, 1946, in Osage, the son of Dale Ronald and Mary Elizabeth (Scoville) Douglas. He graduated from Osage High School in 1964. Ron served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970. On April 7, 1973, he married Elizabeth "BJ" Counsell at the United Church of Christ in Osage. He was employed by the Iowa DOT and then worked as a surveyor for the Mitchell County Secondary Roads Department. Ron then became a self-employed insurance agent in Osage. He was a member of United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Osage American Legion Post 278 and was a long time member of the Post Memorial Squad. He served on the Mitchell County VA Board, the Rural Fire Board, and was an East Lincoln Township Trustee. Ron loved spending time with family and frequenting various small-town eateries with friends. He enjoyed all aspects of the great outdoors (except winter). Ron was a Minnesota Twins baseball and Vikings football fan. He was an outstanding conversationalist and listener.
Ron is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "BJ" Douglas of Osage; his children, Jennifer Jo Douglas of Osage, and Joshua (Theresa) Douglas of Alta Vista; nine grandchildren, Bailey Jaed Douglas Simpson, Seger James Douglas Simpson, Sarah Elizabeth Douglas, Summer Renee Douglas, Ashton Lee McShane, Braden Garrett McShane, Benjamin Jackson Douglas, Brooklyn Jade McShane, and Addie Lynn Douglas; sister, Elaine (Gene) Lesch of Urbandale, and twin sister, Margie Douglas of Johnston; mother-in-law, Adelaide Counsell of Osage; brother-in-law, Dan (Linda L.) Counsell of Climax, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Janice Henson of Rudd; nieces and nephews, Steve (Brenda) Lesch, Suzanne (James) Neu, Tammy Connors, Tina Rohwedder, Travis Counsell, Julie (Jay) Vermillion, and Tony Volpe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Dale Douglas; father-in-law, Lloyd "Shorty" Counsell; brother-in-law, Rodney "Bud" Henson; and many treasured friends and extended family.
