Ruth Knoll Obituary

Ruth Knoll

November 24, 1930 - September 1, 2025

Ruth Ann Knoll, 94, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday September 5, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, Iowa.

Ruth, the oldest child of Paul and Leona (Schmidt) McEldoon, was born on November 24, 1930. She grew up in the Mason City and Clear Lake area and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1948. In her early years, she worked at her family's grocery store before meeting and marrying Bill Maish. Together they raised two children, moving wherever Bill's career as a Park Ranger took them. Following Bill's passing in November 1971, Ruth returned to Mason City, where she began working for Job Service and made a lasting impact by assisting and encouraging many people.

Later, Ruth married Larry Knoll, and the couple shared a love of fishing and time spent outdoors. She was a strong, determined woman who naturally took charge of any situation. In quieter moments, Ruth enjoyed knitting.

Those left to cherish memories of Ruth are her daughter, Mindy (Vern) Prohaski; grandson, James (Ashley) McDonnell; great grandchildren, Josey, Riley and Casey McDonnell; sister, Karen Humphrey; brother-in-law, Doug Juhl; as well as other family members and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Maish, and her husband, Larry Knoll; son, Steve Maish; siblings, Jim McEldoon, Paula Juhl, and Chuck McEldoon; brother-in-law, Bob Humphrey.
