RUDD | Shirley Burnett, 78, of Rudd, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Rudd United Methodist Church, 611 Sixth St., Rudd, with the Rev. Jim Roth officiating. The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the service at Rudd United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Rudd United Methodist Church.
Shirley, daughter of Antone and Geneva (Butterfield) Sorensen, was born April 4, 1937, in Algona, Iowa, one of three children. She graduated from Algona High School in 1955. Shirley was united in marriage to Duane Burnett Feb. 28, 1960, and to this union two children were born.
Shirley worked for Snap-on in Algona as a secretary for many years. She was very active within her church helping with Sunday school for over 30 years, and helping with the record books.
Shirley's greatest joy was helping her husband farm, tending to her garden, raising chickens, going bowling with Duane, and spending time with her family and friends.
Shirley was a member of the Rudd Lyons Club, Ruth's Circle and Rudd United Methodist Church.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Duane Burnett, Rudd; son, Alan (Denise) Burnett, Rudd; daughter, Jean (Dave) Burnett-Rieck, Rudd; 11 grandchildren, Tyler (Jackie Bakos) Burnett, Jason (Breanna Janssen) Burnett, Zachary Burnett, Brittany Hahn, Brayden Valasek, Kimberly (Nathan Jacobson) Burnett, Tiffany (Mike Purcell) Long, Elizabeth (Micah) Ross, Melissa Wiirre, Joshua Rieck, Kory Rieck; eight great-grandchildren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Stanley Sorensen and sister, Louise Bibee.
