Tommy Leonard Stump was born in Mason City, Iowa, on September 26, 1949, the son of Virgil and Ruth (Whitson) Stump. He attended Mason City High School with the class of 1967. On February 28, 1969, Tom was inducted into the United States Marine Corps where he faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge on February 26, 1971, as a corporal.

In September of 2011, Tom retired from Marshall and Swift in Mason City.
Tom enjoyed meeting new people and made friends wherever he went. Being a route driver for most of his life, he had many special friends throughout North Iowa. He loved children and one of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren, he developed a special and unique relationship with each one of them. In addition to his family Tom loved to fish and spent most of his spare time in his boat on Clear Lake. He was an avid birdwatcher and a devoted Cornhuskers fan.
Those grateful in sharing in Tom's life are his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Jennifer Pierce (James Bowers), Taylor Landing, Texas, Erin (Jed) Wright, Independence, and Lindsay (Chris) Vialle, Lee's Summit, Mo.; his grandchildren, Gage, Chase, and Isaac Schoenberger, Clarice and Malaki Wright, David Bowers, and Jack Vialle; his brothers, Larry (Laurene) Stump, Mesa, Ariz., and Jay Stump, Mason City; his sisters, Beatrice Potts, Cleveland, GA, Betty Kidd, Lorane, Ore., and Faye Ranc, Mason City; as well and his nieces and nephews and many friends.

September 13, 2012

Over the last few years, I have really gotten to know my Uncle Tom a lot better. He would stop by on Wednesdays, time permitting and sit with me for a few minutes and we would just sit and watch my boys play, during the summer. Watching Tom in more recent years I have come to see just how much he enjoyed spending time with all the children, Nephews, Nieces, Grandchildren, all of them. I guess that was because deep down he was such a big kid himself. I have a bit of trouble wrapping my head around this still, however I know that he has no more pain. I know that he has been reunited with his Brothers, with his Parents and that his voice and compassion will continue to fill the halls of our hearts and minds. May you rest easy now Uncle Tom. I love and miss you. Your Nephew, La Mont Brian Thompson
