Walter was born November 5, 1925, in St. Ansgar, the son of Henry and Agnes (Miller) Intorf. He attended school in Osage, leaving his junior year to join the Army Air Corps in 1943. Walt trained to be a pilot and began a life-long passion for speed and flying planes that later evolved into making meticulous models of the planes he flew in WWII and barnstorming events in the 1950's.
