Andrew Kirks Obituary

Andrew Lee Kirks Jr.

Andrew "Andy" Lee Kirks Jr., 83, took his last and greatest trip to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Andy proudly served his country in The United States Air Force. He retired from United Parcel Service and was known as the Popcorn Man over the cb. Andy was a faithful member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. Andy was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Dorothy Kirks, Sr. and an infant Sister, Frances.

Andy leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie C. Kirks of 51 years; a son, Michael (Mike) Andrew Kirks and daughter, Kandy Bowen (Lance). The pride and joy of his grandsons (his fishers of men), Andrew (Drew) Cory Kirks, Blake Montgomery Bowen, Ayrton Lance Bowen; a great-grandson, Easton Kirks; a brother-in-law, Dennis Buford Coleman, along with a multitude of close relatives and friends (many known as family).

Such good memories were made while enjoying numerous camping trips with his family and friends. Andy enjoyed being at his Grandsons sporting events and especially fishing with them. After retiring, Andy enjoyed traveling with his wife and longtime family friends. He enjoyed attending Gospel music concerts and conventions especially at Dollywood. Being a Boy Scout and in his spare time, Andy was a crafty man who liked woodworking, gardening, making Christmas ornaments and kept up his talent of crocheting and knitting which he learned from his mother. Andy liked to give away his crafts such as Christmas ornaments, hanging dish towels and pan scrubbers.

For safety reasons, the family is respectfully requesting limited visitation outside at the Kirks residence with masks on while social distancing.

A celebration of life will be held graveside on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 2 p.m. and broadcasted over the radio at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Curtis Faison and the Reverend Leonard L. Southern officiating. During these times, the family asks everyone to please wear a mask and social distance.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, Bachelor's Hall Fire Department and the Brosville Fire Department.

Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel is serving the Kirks family. Online condolences at www.wrenn-yeatts.com.

I will never forget Papa Andy (as the Youth Group called him) and how fun he made the Bland County Missions Trips. He was full of joy and loved on us like we were his own.

Until we see you again, enjoy your Heavenly home, Papa Andy.
