Billy Lewis Obituary

Billy Lewis Mr. Billy Lewis, 73, of 4219 Ridgeway Road, Vernon Hill, Virginia, departed this life Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Virginia. He was born July 13, 1939, in Halifax County, Virginia, the son of the late John I. Lewis and the late Kate E. Stephens Lewis. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a member of the Usher Board, Male Chorus and Senior Choir. He was a retired from Columbia Forest Products in Chatham, Virginia. Survivors include one son, Billy Lewis Jr. (Mary) of Ringgold; three daughters, Allison Lewis Irving (Bill) of Java, Vickie A. Boone (Wayne) of Richmond, and Marie Rodgers (Steve) of Axton; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry C. Lewis of Washington, D.C, and Peter M. Lewis, Philadelphia, Penn.; five sisters, Ida M. Wimbush of Grove City, Penn., Eva Mayfield and Lemon K. Lewis, both of Philadelphia, Penn., Veins Harris and Rosa M. Lewis, both of Albany, N.Y. He was preceded in death by two children, Hope Lewis and Oliver Glory; and six brothers, William, Clyde, James, Wilson, Joe, and Walter Lewis. A funeral service for Mr. Lewis will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, from Ebenezer Baptist Church by the Rev. D. L. Medley. Interment will be held at the Lewis family cemetery, Vernon Hill, Va. Viewing will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home. The family is at 9412 Halifax Road, Java, Va., and 4219 Ridgeway Road, Vernon Hill, Va. Howerton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I worked with Billy at CFP and he was one of my favorite drivers. He never complained and was always upbeat! I remember him bringing us these huge cherries a few times from a fruit stand he passed on his trips. Those were the best cherries! You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Billy was a great man and will be missed!
