Clarence Hughes Obituary

Clarence Eddie Hughes Clarence Eddie Hughes, 64, of 5610 Patterson St, Riverdale, Maryland, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at his residence. He was born March 31, 1949, in Pittsylvania County, Va., to the late Della Waller Hughes and the late John Eddie Hughes. Mr. Hughes proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. He earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal as well as several other medals. He owned and operated a taxi business in Maryland. Mr. Hughes was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church, Java, Va. He is survived by his sisters, Dora H. Wilson of District Heights, Md., and Jonell H. Jackson of Forestville, Md. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was predeceased by his sister, Willie M. Hughes; and his niece, Jennifer Lovelace West. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, Va., with the Rev. Jerry Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Dan River Post 1097. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, is serving the Hughes family.
