Claude Edward Easley

Claude Edward Easley, 85, of 3721 Wyatt Farm Road, Axton, VA died on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Strafford Rehabilitation Center in Danville, VA. Mr. Easley was born on September 24, 1924 in Axton to the late Abraham and Olda R. Reynolds Easley.

He was a crane operator at Northern Shipping Company in Philadelphia, PA for 42 years until his retirement. He was a member of New Sharon Grove Baptist Church in Axton. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was married to Peggy J. Harris Easley, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Peggy J. Harris Easley, Mr. Easley is survived by three sons, Donnie , Ronnie and Philip Edward Easley, all of Axton, VA; sisters, Wilma Easley, of Axton and Joyce Easley, of Martinsville; brothers, Roy Easley, of Hampton, VA, Earl Easley, of Axton, VA and George Easley, of Bridgeport Conn.; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby G. Easley.

Funeral Service will be held at New Sharon Grove Baptist Church in Axton on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 1PM with Rev. Larry Penn officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The Army will be present to present full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-1PM at the church prior to the funeral and at other times will be at the home and at 484 Cross Stitch Road, Dry Fork, VA.

Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home, Inc of Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.
