David Dodson Obituary

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, David Lee Dodson peacefully transitioned to his eternal home at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born August 16, 1961, in Chatham, Virginia to Hilda Childress Martin and Raleigh Eugene Dodson. David was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public School System. David was a hard worker, having worked for Haymes Brothers Construction Company for 25 years. He also played hard and loved cooking and fishing. David was a great provider for his family and friends. David was preceded in death by three siblings, brother, Timothy Dodson and sisters, Laura Dodson and Sheila Dodson Hunt; and uncles, Willie Dodson, James Dodson, Lawson Dodson and Joe L. Dodson. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 28 years, Judy Gee Dodson of the residence; his mother, Hilda Childress Martin of Dry Fork, Virginia; his father, Raleigh Eugene Dodson of Chatham, Virginia; his mother-in-law, Virginia Gee of Danville, Virginia; two sons, David Guidry (Lisa) of Galveston, Texas and Darren Johnson of Danville, Virginia; two stepchildren, DeShawn Gee of Hopewell, Virginia and Lacreesha Gee of Danville, Virginia; five grandchildren, David Guidry Jr., Lyssa Guidry and Lexy Guidry, all of Galveston, Texas, and Landyn and Lauryn Gee of Hopewell, Virginia; his sister, Cynthia Dodson of Danville, Virginia; four brothers, Antonio Dodson (Nikki) and Charles Dodson (Robin) both of Dry Fork, Virginia, Raleigh Dodson of Danville, Virginia and Carroll Dodson of Fort Dix, New Jersey; seven aunts, Loretta Childress of Dry Fork, Virginia, Margaret Robertson (Kenny), Carolyn Dodson, Elnora Childress and Sylvia Miller all of Chatham, Virginia, Queenie Gregory of Altavista, Virginia and Alma Dodson of Danville, Virginia; one uncle, Daniel Dodson (Violeen) of Chatham, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Daryl Gee of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Glass (Junior) of Roanoke, Virginia and Sharon Gee of Danville, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Mr. David Lee Dodson will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, 581 Fairview Road, Chatham, Virginia 24531 Pastor Michael K. Ferrell, Sr., Eulogist, the Rev. Alfred Younger, Officiating, Antioch Baptist Church Chatham Va. Interment will follow in the Highland Memorial Park, 3049 North Main Street, Danville, Virginia 24541. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence, 140 Laramine Circle, Danville, Virginia 24541 at 12 p.m. on the day of the service. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home, 707 Wilson Street, Danville, Virginia 24541. Floral arrangements may be sent to Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. All correspondence and/or telephone calls may be directed to the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment.
