Duane Willard Myers
Duane Willard Myers Duane Willard Myers, 84, of Richmond, Virginia, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. A native of Pennsylvania, he attended Brookville High School where he starred in baseball, basketball and track. At 17, he served as a paratrooper in Japan with the occupational forces following World War II. Afterward, he graduated from Duke University, where he also played baseball. After teaching briefly, he worked for Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia, where he met his wife of 54 years, Betsy Garrett. He also played professional baseball in New York and North Carolina for three years. Then he joined BP, where he worked for 34 years, retiring as an executive in 1984. Duane and Betsy were avid golfers and longtime members of Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield, Ohio. Duane is survived by his children, Elizabeth Myers (Piero Pierandrei), Lynn Myers and Michael Myers (Rebecca); as well as three grandchidren, Maddy and Christopher Myers and Helena Pierandrei; and his sisters, Pat Gerhan (Chuck) and Mary Carolyn Harwick. Donations may be made in his memory to any youth baseball program or charitable organization of your choice.
