Dwight Nicholas Obituary

Dwight Everett Nicholas, 78, of 873 Duncan Dr., lost his long fight with chronic illness Tuesday, October 20, 2015.Mr. Nicholas was born September 6, 1937 in Bremen, Alabama to the late Guy Joseph Nicholas and Trilby Self Nicholas. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and had retired from the former Home Insurance Company after 30 years. He loved to garden and feed birds. Mr. Nicholas was also a loving father and grandfather.Mr. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Harris of the home; one son, Nick Nicholas (Ann-Elise) of Richmond, Va.; two daughters, Jamie (Joy Laramie) of Arlington, Va., and Kelly Nicholas of Fredricksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Alexandra Bowen (Danny), Morgan Nicholas, Kelsi Dodson (Andrew), Lilly Nicholas, Jacob Bradshaw, and Benjamin Bradshaw; and one great-grandson, Samuel Bowen.In addition to his parents, Mr. Nicholas was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Nicholas, Buford Nicholas, and Renee (Butch) Nicholas; and one sister, Mavery Jaffe.A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Fairview United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Kathleen Monge. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 873 Duncan Drive, Danville.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 1038 Westover Drive, Danville, VA 24541, or Bachelors Hall Volunteer Fire Department, 1301 Berry Hill Road, Danville, VA 24541.The family gratefully acknowledges the staff of the ICU Department of Danville Regional Medical Center.Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory, West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, is serving the Nicholas family.
