Edith Newbill Hammock CHATHAM - Edith Newbill Hammock, 104, of Chatham died Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Born March 22, 1909, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Parker Newbill and Hester Berger Newbill. She was predeceased by her husband, William Jennings Bryant Hammock; two sons, Calvin Hammock and Alfred Hammock; one brother, Berkley Newbill; two sisters, Lizzie Newbill, and Doris Owen; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Hammock was a member of Penhook United Methodist Church and was a home maker. She was a former cafeteria worker at Gretna Middle School; and was a master gardener, and enjoyed quilting. She is survived by one son, Lynwood "Lindy" Hammock and his wife, Betty Jane, of Chatham; two daughters, Betty Hammock Lynch of Chatham, and Mary Ann Davis of Chatham; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2013, at Penhook United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Judith Short and the Rev. Betty Marshall. Burial will follow in Liberty Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Lindy and Betty Jane Hammock, 5684 Museville Road, Chatham.
