Mrs. Ellen Miller Lanier Coleman, 84, of 3577 Church Rd., Java, VA passed Saturday (07-10-10) at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Born October 3, 1925 in Pittsylvania Co., she was the daughter of the late Raleigh Miller & Mrs. Lula Miller. She was twice married, first to Thomas Lanier and secondly to the late Howard Coleman.

Mrs. Coleman accepted Christ at an early age at the Riceville Baptist Church in Java, VA. She relocated to Chester, Pa for several years and then to Washington, DC. She became a member of the St. James Baptist Church in Washington, DC were she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Gospel Choir, and a member of the Ever Ready Club. Upon Retirement she returned to Pittsylvania County to live.

Surviving are two daughtersForestine Lanier Mack (John) of Clinton, MD and Loretta Lanier of Java, VA; one son, Ronald Lanier of Ft. Wash., MD; four sisters, Mrs. Eva Shelton, Chatham, VA, Mrs. Ardie Lanier and Mrs Delcenia Jenkins of Chester, PA and Mrs. Lillian Dixon, Petersburg, VA; four grandchildren and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by one son, Schederick Lanier; three sisters, Sylvia Womack, Alma Jenkins and Angelina Miller and one brother, Vernett Miller.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home by Rev. Walter Coles with interment in the Riceville Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing & visitation will Tuesday from 4-7 at the funeral home.

The Family will be at the home of Ms. Alberta Womack, 252 Yeatts Store Road, Java, VA.
