Essie Herndon Emerson

JAVA - Essie Herndon Emerson, 92, of 220 Adams Farm Road, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Piney Forest Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 6, 1914, in Dry Fork, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Herndon and the late Mary Alice Haymore Herndon.
She lived most of her life on Stokesland Avenue Ext. in Danville prior to moving to her son's residence in Java.
She was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was married to the late George Melvin Emerson, who died Sept. 26, 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin Ray Emerson, of Java and Jerry Langston Emerson, of Danville; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Avis Towler, Annie Price, Marion Turner; one brother, Willie Herndon; and a daughter, Marjie Emerson Scearce.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Swicegood Chapel with the Rev. Wilmer Sowell officiating. Interment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18, at Swicegood Funeral Home.
