Ethel Harris Roach

COLLINSVILLE - Ethel Harris Roach, 201 Eliza Reamy Avenue, Collinsville, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Rockingham County, NC, May 5, 1919 to Robert Lee and Lula Lovelace Harris. She attended public school in Price NC and moved to Brosville where she graduated from Brosville High School. In 1936 she moved to Axton and worked for Prillaman's Meat Market for 16 years as a cashier. She also worked for Blue Ridge Vending Company until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeway for a number of years before moving to Collinsville in 1996 when she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville where she was a member of the Friendship Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Andrew Roach in 1972; a sister, Mildred Sawyers Eanes; three brothers, Thomas R. (Red) Harris, Harvey L. Harris and Curtis L. Harris.

She is survived by a daughter, Glenda Farrell Roach of the residence in Collinsville; one son, Gary Delano Roach of Penson, TN; two sisters, Della H. Eanes of Roanoke and Louise H. Doyle of Ridgeway; one brother, Robert L. Harris, Jr. of Alvin, TX; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel with interment to follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home and other times at the residence in Collinsville.

Memorials may be made to Hospice, Martinsville Area Community Foundation, P. O. Box 1124, Martinsville, VA 24114, First Baptist Church of Collinsville, 3339 VA Avenue, Collinsville, VA 24078 or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel.
