Florene Ann Astin

Florence Ann Kerns Astin of 377 Astin Lane, Danville, Va., passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Ann was born in the Sutherlin community of Halifax County, a daughter of the late Stanley Nortin Kerns and Margaret Slayton Kerns. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James E. Astin, Jr.; daughter, Dolly Ann Mayerchak and husband, Mark, of Mooresville, N.C.; step-granddaughter, Laura Romeo and husband, Jon, of Raleigh, NC.

In her teenage years, Ann lived at Hughes Memorial School. She was a graduate of Whitmell Farm Life School and of Averett College. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. She worked in office administration at the Danville Urologic Clinic for 47 years. In her spare time, She and Jim enjoyed ballroom dancing for 30 years, and they loved to travel, visiting 46 countries over the years.
