Ida Joyce Craft

Ida Joyce Hammack Craft, 85, of 600 Main Street, Danville, Va., died on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a decline in her health for the past three months.

Ida was born in Chatham, Va., on April 30, 1935, a daughter of the late William Arvid Hammack and Nannie Towler Hammack. She lived most of her life in Ringgold, Va., and been a resident of Danville for the past five years.

Ida was a homemaker. She worked as a babysitter for many years, cleaned houses and worked on tobacco farms. She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, and spending time with her granddaughter.

On December 24, 1953, she married David Jesse Craft, who died on January 3, 2004. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Ernest, Lester, Lacy, Lee T., Garnett, and Spencer Hammack; and a sister, Ethel Thomas.

Survivors include two sons, James David Craft and Jack Winston Craft, both of Ringgold, Va.; a daughter, Wanda Craft of Danville, Va.; a granddaughter, Samantha Joyce Craft; a sister, Arlene Falls of Danville, Va.; and a brother, Luther Hammack of Chatham, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 8, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Ringgold Baptist Church with the Reverend Carl Burger officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
