Irene Meadows Robertson

GRETNA - Irene Meadows Robertson, age 85, of 5816 East Gretna Road, Gretna, died Friday, October 3, 2008 at Gretna Health and Rehab Center.

Born June 27, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Meadows and Virgie Davis Meadows. She was predeceased by two brothers, Cleveland Meadows and Berkley Meadows; two sisters, Sally Riddle and Christine Taylor; and a grandson, Ted Powell. Mrs. Robertson was an active member of Greenfield Baptist Church, singing in the choir, and held many other positions within the church. She was a home maker and enjoyed growing flowers.

She is survived by her husband of over 68 years, Philmore Robertson Sr., of the residence; one son, Philmore Robertson Jr. and wife, Kathryn of West Chester, Pa.; one daughter, Jeanette P. Mills and husband, Kent of Charlottesville; two grandsons, Terry Powell and Tim Powell; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Powell and Garrett Powell.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 at Greenfield Baptist Church by Rev. R.G. Rowland. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to Greenfield Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 875, Gretna, VA 24557.
