Joan Crews Obituary

Joan "Billie" Dameron Crews passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born December 13, 1933, and was married for 57 years to John Thomas Crews until his passing in 2011.The daughter of William Reid Dameron and Dottie Marie Dameron Short, she is survived by her three children, Amy Crews Baxter and husband, Dave of Seneca, S.C., Alan T. Crews and wife, Robin of Danville, and Emily Crews and husband, Mikael Manoukian of Arlington, Va. Survivors also include one grandson, Jon David Baxter and wife, Anne-Marie and sons, David James and Benjamin of Windham, Vermont; and niece, Bonnie Hundley and husband, Steve of Chatham.Joan was a graduate of George Washington High School and spent most of her working life employed by Dan River in the Inventory Control department. She adored her beagle Dixie, loved visiting with her family and friends, and watching dance, golf and tennis.The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 7 until8:30p.m. at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the family residence.The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Daryl Joyce officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Danville Humane Society, P.O. Box 3352, Danville VA 24543.Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street is serving the Crews family.
