June Poteat Gwynn, 91, of 711 Main St, Yanceyville, N.C., went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Sovah Health in Danville after being in declining health for the past two weeks.

June was born in Caswell County, N.C. on April 29, 1930, a daughter of the late Hollis Poteat and Elaine Fitch Poteat. She graduated in 1953 from the Medical College of Virginia with a Bachelor's degree in nursing, where she went on to retire from the Caswell County Health Department. June was a very caring nurse and was loved by all of her patients.

She was an active member of Yanceyville Presbyterian Church and was a member of Yanceyville Methodist Church prior, where she was the church's organist for over 40 years. June loved music, especially organ music, and enjoyed listening to her favorite organist the late Katherine Watlington.

In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, cross stitching and crocheting hats and blankets for newborns. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and with various senior groups within Caswell County. She loved being around children and she especially loved puppies.

June was married to Joseph Daniel "J.D." Gwynn Jr. who died on December 28, 2006.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Peggy Ferguson.

Survivors include, her son, Joseph Malloy Gwynn of Danville, Va.; her niece, Tammy Ricketts (Mark) of Chesterfield, Va.; and numerous, great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for June will be conducted on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Yanceyville Presbyterian Church with the Pastor Jimmy Davis officiating. Interment will follow the service in Yanceyville Municipal Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the church and on Monday, November 22, 2021 the family will be at June's residence from 12 until 5 p.m., 711 Main Street, Yanceyville, NC 27379.

Memorial donations can be made to the Danville Humane Society.
