Karin Gunter Obituary

Karin Swanson Gunter STOKESDALE - Mrs. Karin Swanson Gunter, 69, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at her home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Mrs. Gunter was born on December 4, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of William and Mildred Swanson. She spent much of her childhood in different places with her father in the Air Force and graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Germany. She met her husband of nearly 45 years while she was in Germany and eventually settled down in Stokesdale 40 years ago. Locally, she was very active with 4-H, PTA, and animal rescue and training groups. After showing cows for many years with her children she turned her passion towards Doberman Pinscher and Rat Terriers. She raised and trained her own dogs as well as helped many others in this endeavor. She was passionate about the care of animals of all ages and in her later years she proudly gave safe refuge for many dogs that would have otherwise been without. Surviving are three children, Bobby Ray Gunter Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Melbourne, Australia, Marijane Webb and husband, Stephen, of Madison and James William "Jamie" Gunter II and his wife, Diana, of Stokesdale; a sister, Christell Tilley Lewis and husband, Pete, of Ridgeway, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Jacqi, CJ, Christopher, John, Zachary, Will, Andrew and Samuel; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Gunter Sr;. and a brother, Kenneth William Swanson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one of her favorite animal charities, Ratbone Rescues, at Ratbone Rescues, P.O. Box 3237, Seminole, FL 33775-3237 On-line condolences may be offered at www.forbisanddick.com.
