Myrtle Ferguson Obituary


DANVILLE, Va. - Myrtle Giles Ferguson, 83, of 144 Winterberry Road, was called home to the Lord on Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at the residence of her daughter at 3917 R & L Smith Road.

Born Nov. 22, 1921, at Whitmell, she was the daughter of the late Charlie W. Giles and Janie P. Giles.

Myrtle lived most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania Co. She was a former member of Melville Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and was an active member of W.M.U. Myrtle attended Sharon Baptist Church for many years. She worked in inspection and dress departments of Dan River, Inc. until 1964, retiring because of ill health.

She was predeceased by a son, William Ferguson; one sister, Louise Suggs; and two brothers, Nat Giles and William Giles.

She had lived on Winterberry Road for the past thirty years.

She was married to Dewey L. Ferguson on Jan. 6, 1940. He died March 25, 2002.She is survived by two daughters, Joan Epps and Jacqueline Lanum, both of Danville; a son, Bobby L. Ferguson of Danville; two brothers, Luther Giles of Roanoke and Charlie Giles of Danville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Danville, with the Rev. Allen Holder and the Rev. Daryl Joyce officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times will be at the residence of Jacqueline Lanum, 3917 R & L Smith Drive, near Twin Springs Road.

Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
